Debating
Debating has been an active part of Georges River Grammar’s culture for the greater part of its life, allowing its students to engage in higher-level public speaking. This competitive academic sport offers a team of students the ability to compete with schools around the state in competitions such as the Heads of Independent Co-educational Schools Debating Competition, the MISA Debating Competition, and the Sydney Morning Herald Plain English Speaking competitions.
Georges River Grammar first offered debating as a co-curricular activity in its third year of operation, 1988, and to this day we still have debating teams ranging from a junior level in Year 6 to an open level in Year 12. Our teams attribute their successes in debating to the school, and its willingness to encourage their love for speaking and discussing universal matters. Georges River Grammar is highly regarded as one of the best schools in the region for nurturing these debating skills, equipping all the teams with experienced coaches, and a dedicated Debating and Public Speaking Captain who supports all the teams in their development.
